POE Program Application

Students who meet the application requirements detailed on http://www.stjude.org/poe may apply after September 1, 2013 for our 2014 program. Note that ALL applicants MUST have research experience (e.g. with a science professor or in another internship program). The deadline for receipt of all POE 2014 application materials will be February 1, 2014. Official credentials sent electronically, postmarked, or faxed by the recommender or university no later than February 1, 2014 will be accepted. Electronic credentials are much preferred, but hard copy will be accepted. Please ask recommenders to include your name in the subject line of emailed recommendations. Early application and submission of credentials is strongly encouraged, since those who apply after January 1 run a high risk of not getting all their credentials in by the deadline. The volume of applications and credentials is so high that we are unable to notify applicants of missing credentials..

You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to be eligible for this program. If you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, do not apply for this program.

Hard copy (paper) applications will not be accepted.

Fields in bold must be completed.

The following items are required to complete your application:

1. If you are currently a medical student, please request that your dean's or registrar’s office email Dr. Gronemeyer a letter (PDF preferred) indicating that you are a student in good standing. Alternatively, you may have your official medical school transcript sent to Dr. Gronemeyer.

2. Ask two research mentors or science faculty members who know you well academically to send (PDF attachment to email preferred) a letter of recommendation for you to Dr. Gronemeyer suzanne.gronemeyer@stjude.org. Since ours is a research program, letters from research mentors are especially helpful. If you have experience in two research laboratories, letters from both research mentors would be appreciated and may be used for the two required letters. If you are a psychology or nursing major, one of your letters may be from one of your major professors. Please ask your recommenders to include your name in the subject line of emailed recommendations. It is fine to submit more than two letters of recommendation

3. Request that official transcript(s) from your undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) institution(s) be sent to Dr. Gronemeyer. Electronic transcripts are preferred, if the university offers that option. Medical students must also submit official transcript(s) from undergraduate and graduate (if applicable) institution(s) attended prior to medical school.

4. If you are a first year medical student, both letters may be from your undergraduate professors and/or research mentors. Letters written in support of your application to medical school may be used.
